Welcome weebs, non-weebs, BL lovers, non-BL lovers, and (most importantly) Type A Personality character lovers! Does that sound about right? Well, if you’re not a fan of Type A characters then this post might not be for you. But if you do love ’em, please, take a seat and let’s scream about some of my lovely bishie husbands and sons!
This post was inspired and written for the Bookending Spring Event being hosted by Clo and Sam. The event runs throughout April and each day there is a prompt created by a variety of hosts. Being the procrastinator I am, I only just started writing my posts for this event a few days ago (hehe, oops).
Now then, since this is an anime blog, I decided to go through the list of prompts to find something on the vague side. I ended up seeing the prompt Type A Personality Characters, which was made by Charvi @ Not Just Fiction
I tried to write this post on the 12th but once I sat down to write, I realized I didn’t actually know what Type A characters were like. Instead of looking up the definition that day, like the not good blogger I am, I am doing so today, rip
What is a Type A character?
A temperament characterized by excessive ambition, aggression, competitiveness, drive, impatience, need for control, focus on quantity over quality and unrealistic sense of urgency.
Can all of my shounen protagonists make a line to be featured? Single file line, no pushing, HEY- *total chaos ensues, Crimson is lost in the mob* (in no particular order)
Sawamura and Miyuki (Ace of Diamond)
Sawamura with his burning passion to have his middle school (transitioning to high school) crush notice him (#noticemesenpai), puts his whole and complete heart on the diamond in order to get Miyuki’s attention. He may or may not use his flexibility, legs, and unnatural pitching style to keep those sneaky eyes on his lithe form! And oh my, those burning eyes of passion are quite powerful…so mesmerizing…
Miyuki Kazuya, total control freak and the only kiddie who volunteered to be the catcher when starting his baseball career at the tender age of what? seven? eight? I’m not sure, anime characters are so hard to correctly age label! – because catchers are cool and control the game – can’t seem to keep his gay paws and eyes and thoughts off his little protege.
Both characters get super excited with aggressive plays, are super ambitious to the point of injury, and they feel like they need to get there NOW.
Hinata and Tsukishima (Haikyuu)
Have you guys noticed that all sports anime characters can technically be classified as Type A characters? Well, up next I have Hinata and Tsukishima!
Hinata, that tiny ball of sunshine and competitiveness!! I was actually going to originally talk about him and Kageyama because those two are always trying to one-up each other…even though they’re on the same team! From trying to see who can run the fastest to school (Hinata HOW, you live on a mountain or something, his stamina…!) to facing each other off on the court with their new techniques, Hinata can’t seem to be satiated! Even going so far as to challenge every member on their team, and every member in Karasuno also considers him one of their best rivals!
Tsukishima I decided to choose, not because I love the TsukkiHina height difference, later character development, or because they’re my OTP (LIES- Shush! Don’t discredit me!), but because Tsukishima is one of my favorite characters. At the start of the series he doesn’t really come off as aggressive (only with his snappy remarks, kekeke) or even competitive in comparison to his teammates but Tsukki is possibly the most competitive best boy in this gay volleyball team?! But he’s like shy about the fact so he does secret after practice training and because of his success with Shiratorizawa (imo), he feels like he needs to be Karasuno’s defense alone. Good thing Hinata knocked some sense into him!
I can’t get enough of these two!
Katsuki and Deku (My Hero Academia)
What?! What do you guys mean you don’t like Katsuki?! Blasphemy! *cries in a corner*
Up next are Deku and Katsuki from My Hero Academia. I think it’s pretty obvious why they’re both here. I mean, Deku, with his power One For All and his misuse of it. While yes he does end up protecting his friends and civilians, the poor guy needs to find a way to do it without breaking his limbs! Plus, his rivalry and mending friendship with Katsuki is full of aggression, competitiveness, impatience, and basically everything that characterizes a Type A character.
I haven’t gotten around to the newer seasons of the series but from the little I remember, Deku is also filled with an urgency to become the next symbol of peace, and never hesitates to push himself a little too hard. The kid needs to start relying on his friends a little #rip
And oh boy, Katsuki is basically a ball of aggression! From screaming DIE before starting battle to being a little snot and using his gauntlets while fighting Deku (smh), he’s also a perfect fit for Type A, especially when he starts to see Deku’s progression with his Quirk. Luckily, the progression in his character has made him less negatively aggressive and more rivalry aggressive
These two are possibly the definition of reckless!
Welp, that’s all for this little list! What are some of your favorite Type A characters? Also, that character that’s screaming in the back! Stop telling lies! I’ll feature you when you get a boyfriend, I mean, when you find a rival that makes you a Type A character!
