[ICYMI: 12/2018 – 01/06] On the Blog and Browsing My Timeline

Hey guys! So it’s been a while since I last did one of these and since I was sitting here bored out of my mind I thought I’d blog. Except that I didn’t really feel like watching or reading anything new so I thought I’d do a roundup post! Normally (HA) I write these up at the end of the month but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to write one now (I have content backlog I can share, lol)

For December I decided to join the #12DaysofAnime, which is a challenge that runs from December 14 to Christmas every year. During this time, content creators talk about anything anime and otaku culture (in my case, blog). Since I was just “coming back” to blogging and hadn’t watched anything for a while, I thought I’d do first impressions for the challenge. For the most part, my goal was to get back into watching anime so I decided to pick a few that I had started already and some new to me that I had been curious about (or recommended)

  1. #12DaysofAnime: Anime I Plan to Check Out Before I Disappear Again This January
  2. #12DaysofAnime: Boruto (ep 1 – 5) Rambles
  3. #12DaysofAnime: Skull-face Bookseller Honda-san (ep 1 – 3) Rambles
  4. #12DaysofAnime: Goblin Slayer (ep 1 – 3) Rambles
  5. #12DaysofAnime: Banana Fish Rambles
  6. #12DaysofAnime: Gurazeni Money Pitch (ep 1 – 3) rambles
  7. #12DaysofAnime: FREE!! Dive to the Future (ep 1 – 5) rambles
  8. #12DaysofAnime: I’m Being Harassed By the Sexiest Man of the Year (ep 1 – 3) rambles
  9. #12DaysofAnime: Attack on Titan (ep 34 – 37) rambles

Even though I didn’t complete the challenge (12 posts), I think I did rather well this year. The first time I attempted this challenge I probably only did 2 posts so I think this is a major win. I think what really worked against me is that I would lose track of when I would make posts. I swear I had only been a day or two off and next thing I knew I was four posts off! I might have been dying of laughter

Next year I’m going to do this challenge again but I’d like to put some thought into what I do. If anyone has suggestions feel free to drop them in the comments! ^^ Since it’s closer to the end of the year, I thought I would do some lists (XX favorite anime/manga, characters, etc). I don’t really make lists like these because I lose track of everything I watch but I’d like to have a better handle on things this year so that I can finally contribute to some of those end of year rankings, lol. But if you have other ideas or list ideas, let me know. I take suggestions all the time

Manga and Webcomics

Aside from anime, I also started doing some reading! It actually started with Haikyuu. I had been going through some of my fanfiction stories and stumbled upon a Tsukki/Hina story. I wanted to try and update it but it had been so long since I had last read Haikyuu. I couldn’t really remember what was happening so I thought I’d remedy this, especially since I needed inspiration for Tsukishima and Kageyama dialogue

Next thing I knew I had read like five volumes in a few hours and I had to STOP myself from catching up to the series and you know, get back on the fanfiction track. From there I started to pick up a couple webcomics and wala! I had content for the blog

I’m hoping to write up a couple more webcomic-specific posts in the coming days, partially inspired by my stats from 2018 and partially because I’ve only really read webcomics recently (oops)

#TheJCS (previously #JonsCreatorShowcase)

CAN YOU GUYS BELIEVE THIS PROJECT IS A YEAR OLD?! I know, it doesn’t feel like it’s been that long but it has been, we’ve kept it going strong, and we are moving along into the second year! For any newcomers, The Jon Creator Showcase was created by Jon over at Jon Spencer Reviews at the beginning of 2018. His goal for this project is to have content creators share their work in an interactive way regardless of skill or following. The project was run by Jon for a month but because of IRL situations he had to “drop the project.” Luckily, Raistlin suggested having multiple hosts as a way to not let the project die!

For 2019, the Jon’s Creator Showcase is returning to Jon’s blog. He’s already put up the post with this month’s information, along with some of his goals for this year’s showcases (so head on over and take a look!). Like always, submissions are for content created the months prior (so December content for the January showcase) and can be submitted via Twitter using the tag #TheJCS, in the comments section of his post, or email (all info on his post). Submissions run until January 28th

Also, if anyone is interested in looking over the previous submissions, I have rounded up the links on my blog. For 2018, I hosted the showcase for March and November, and for 2019 I will be hosting April and September 😀

OWLS Bloggers

2017 stops | 2018 stops | 2019 stops

Talking about things I haven’t done in a while! One of my resolutions for this year is to get back to blogging with OWLS. I was away from both blogging and OWLS this past year and I feel like I need to remedy this. Honestly, the posts I did for OWLS were some of the most fun I ever did and the gems on my blog. Recently Takuto wrote up a post where he goes over some of his favorite OWLS posts (that he wrote) and he mentions he participated in all the tours. I was impressed. There were a lot of tours where I really wanted to participate but that I just didn’t know what to write about and Takuto managed to get something for all the themes. I’d like to try doing that for 2019 ^^

As of right now this is our theme for January and our scheduled stops:

Metamorphosis: A brand new year means new beginnings and opportunities. We have a tendency to embrace the new year because it’s a time when we can start fresh. For this month’s topic, we will be exploring our favorite dynamic characters who undergo changes for better or for worse. We will analyze these characters’ transformations and how these transformations benefited or minimized these characters’ potential in becoming “great people/beings.” We will also use these characters as a way for us to reflect on our own lives and who we want to become. Lastly, we would like to say “Happy New Year, everyone!”

I haven’t really decided what I should talk about for this stop. I would like to avoid using the anime and manga I used for previous months but I think that depends on the themes. Sometimes some themes just go with certain shows (this is how I felt when I wrote about Skip Beat). Another goal of mine is to talk more about BL content for these tours but we’ll see how that goes

In the meantime, here is a sneak preview of shows other OWLS bloggers might be talking about: MHA, Land of the Lustrous, One Piece, Wandering Son, Parasyte, and Run With the Wind

Now that all that stuff has been taken care of, let’s start sharing some posts! Some I may have read after the 6th but uh, who’s checking?

My Top Five Favorite OWLS Posts That I Wrote in 2018 by Takuto: And this is why I didn’t link it up above! Lol. Aside from Takuto leaving us all in the dust with all his OWLS posts, I just really liked the way he reflected on his posts. As for me, well, I’m still catching up on 2017 posts (oops)

Dear Blogger Friends Part 2 by Irina: Can I just say that Irina is THE BEST? It’s been a while since I last read part 1 (so I revisited) and Irina just gets it. Blogging is tough and even though this is a letter to all, it seemed to hold all the right words I’ve been wanting to hear #emotional

Confessions of an anime blog by Yomu: Ok I just HAD to share this one because it’s so relatable! And I might just take up Yomu on their offer to share some anime confessions…one day xD

Blind To The True Enemy – ‘The Rising Of The Shield Hero’ Episode 1 Review by Cactus Matt: I think “objective” first impressions and reviews are cool but I must confess, rants are my favorite because we get the true FEELS of people. Suffice to say this was one of my favorite recent reads ^^

Banana Fish – Anime Review by Mistress of Yaoi: I still haven’t finished Banana Fish so I was a little hesitant about reading this review. Mistress of Yaoi does a Great job at not spoiling the series but also getting the important info to us 😀

MP100 S2 Review in a Tweet by j0 (@kami_karasu): So true! Please check out MP100 if you haven’t already ^^

Haystack Teru 2k17 Moment by cybacle (@tennkujous): More MP100 fun!

WELP, these are a couple posts that I really liked “this week” (I don’t even know). I’m trying to find more blogs to follow, to comment more on posts, to read more posts, and to just be a bit more active (if not writing, at least on the reading side). I’m not sure when the next roundup will happen but I’ll be lurking around (hehe). But what has everyone been up to? Anything you wrote that you really want to share or maybe something interesting that you read? Like always, feel free to share any links (or anything) with me via the comments section or on Twitter

I’ve just started classes so I’ll be reading a lot of stuff about Stalin (eek!) and I’m hoping to continue following Boogiepop the rest of this winter season. I’d also like to pick up one or two more shows (MP100 FOR SURE) but I haven’t decided if I’ll be blogging about them weekly ^^

Enjoy my content? Want to support me? Feel free to follow me on social media (FB, Twitter, Instagram), like this post, share it, and/or leave some comments so I know I’m not just screaming into the void! You can also support me by buying me a coffee ^^

  1. Thanks for the shoutout! I’ve already gotten some great submissions but of course we could always use more! 😀

If you are reading this and thinking, “My work isn’t good enough… or I only do art/post about, “X”/etc…” Don’t worry! Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate so get out there and please consider joining the project. I promise you’ll be glad you did! 🙂
