Remember I mentioned there might be a part 3 to these first impression posts? Well, as of right this instant, there will definitely be another! You see, I got two recommendations for shows in Part 1 and I thought I’d check them out.
Both Daiyamanga and Alex recommended I check out Sakamoto desu ga, and Mika recommended Koutetsujou no Kabaneri! Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find Mika’s recommendation on Crunchyroll or Funimation so I tried to find out where I could watch it. Apparently it’s being streamed by Amazon (what??) so I wasn’t able to include it on this post.
However, I most definitely will on the next one (when my brother is done watching his TSM stuff and I can use his account)!
Sakamoto desu ga/Haven’t you heard? I’m Sakamoto
I’m generally not a fan of funny shows but this one really had me from the moment I saw this gif, of course, at the time I didn’t know what the anime was called.
Since the moment Sakamoto first appeared up until the end of this episode I was just laughing, facepalming, and asking myself what I was doing with my life. I really enjoyed this, even though it’s SO random! We have Sakamoto, the envy of all male students, the ideal crush for all the ladies, and just the perfect student. With such perfection, he’s bound to have enemies, but Sakamoto is always one step ahead of all pranks.
Bucket of water dumped into the toilet stall he walked into? No worries, he’s got an umbrella. Killer hornet appears after being given a time limit to answer practice question B? Sakamoto and his compass can handle both and not even break a sweat. Fire in a locked room? Time for some voodoo dancing…
Sakamoto is just Cool. Cooler. Coolest!
He’s so cool he entrances the hearts of all the “straight” thugs…
My only concern is that this funny random stuff can get old and once it stops being funny I’ll be gone, which is what happened with me and Osomatsu-san.
Tanaka-kun is Always Listless
I don’t remember seeing this one when I first started watching this season’s anime but the cover looked really nice so I thought I’d check it out.
A really slow, mundane, and cute show, this anime follows the life of Tanaka-kun who is always dozing off and being sluggish and Ohta-kun, his bestfriend and the reason he can continue being so lazy. Ohta gets him to class on time, carries him to places, and overall does the work of two people.
At this point I’m not really sure how I feel about this anime. The style is really cute but the main character is really lazy and Ohta doesn’t seem to mind it in the least. In fact, he respectes Tanaka’s listlessness…I thought maybe there’d be a movement where they (Tanaka’s friends) try to give some life to his lifeless body but I didn’t see anything that implied such a thing. There were a few funny scenes but honestly this show made me sleepy, HAHA
I don’t think I’ll be following this one but I might stop by later on to see what’s happened.
I’d been a little hesitant about starting this one. The first time I’d heard of it, it was through a Tweet saying it was going to air at this one convention (I can’t remember which one). I didn’t really think much about it afterwards but when I saw it on Crunchyroll later with 16 videos listed I was like, nope not checking this out
Turns out it only had 1 episode and a whole bunch of VA mini-videos
This show is pretty weird and I’m having a hard time following. We have Katsuhira who has been bullied since he was a little kid because he doesn’t feel pain. One day a girl named Sonozaki pushes him off the stairs after she explains some of the deadly sins as they’re viewed in Japan and he ends up in pretty bad shape. Quickly taken to the hospital by these mascots, Katsuhira finds himself rolled across a disco-like hospital and then suspiciously healed.
Already waiting for him, Sonozaki starts explaining that Katsuhira and five others have been bonded through their wounds and that they have been forcefully used for an experiment called Kiznaiver. The end goal seems to be world peace…?
I’m most likely going to follow this anime since it sounds interesting, however, I’m feeling really sketchy about this. Why don’t they question the whole kidnapping and being experimented on? Are they just going to roll with this? How can Sonozaki get away with all this? Like, who is she really? How are they feeling Katsuhira’s pain when he doesn’t feel any? (or was it that he hardly felt any pain…?)
I also don’t like Sonozaki. She irritates me.
And that is all for the Crunchyroll shows I checked out this season (kind of). I did check out Twin Star Exorcists but I didn’t finish it because I realized what I was watching and saved myself the trouble. I’d read a preview of the manga a while back and DID NOT like it. Not to mention that the art was iffy and the guy character was really…I didn’t like him.
I also briefly checked out Cerberus because, with a name like that, I was sure I was going to like it. Again, I didn’t finish it because I couldn’t get past the character designs.
Next up are the Funimation shows!
